Speaking about ‘god’
by Paul Blackham
Speaking about "god" means nothing unless we know the Three who actually ARE the Living God.
It is easy for people to talk about "god" without ever knowing the Father, Son and Spirit who are the One God.
We do not believe in the Living God if we simply believe in "god".
The devil believes in the Triune God and trembles - but the devil just laughs at the speculations, theories and fancies that are loaded into the word "god" by human religion and religious philosophy.
Spurgeon reminds us to know each member of the Trinity properly and personally.
"If we want to know the Living God and know peace with Him, we must know Him as He has revealed Himself, not only in the unity of His essence, but also in the plurality of His persons.
God said, "Let us make humanity in our own image".
Humans cannot know peace until we know the "us" from whom we were created.
Make sure you know the Father.
Run into His arms in deep repentance.
Confess that you are not worthy to be called His child.
Receive the kiss of His love.
Let Him give you the ring which is the token of His eternal faithfulness be on your finger.
Sit at His table and let your heart be merry in His grace.
Seek to always know more of the Son of God who is the brightness of His Father's glory.
He left the infinite riches of His eternal glory in order to become human for us.
Know Him in the unique complexity of His nature: eternal God, and yet suffering, finite human.
Follow Jesus as He walks with these human and divine footsteps through all His work and teaching.
Don't be satisfied unless you know much of Jesus Christ as your Friend, your Brother, your Husband, your all.
Never forget the Holy Spirit.
Get a clear understanding of the personality and nature of this Divine Person.
Marvel in the Spirit's power and life, work and witness.
Watch how the Spirit works throughout the Scriptures - how the Spirit first moved on the chaos in creation - bringing life and order to all things.
Appreciate how this same Spirit brings life and ordered holiness into the chaos & darkness of your own soul.
Love the Spirit as the LORD and Giver of life;
the Illuminator,
the Instructor,
the Comforter,
and the Sanctifier.
Appreciate how the same Spirit that anointed Jesus Himself, flows down from that Divine Head onto His Body - onto us as Church.
This rational, Biblical EXPERIENCE of the Living God is the very essence of the Christian Faith.
To know the One God who is Three is the path to true peace".
